The International ADR Summit of Maadhyam, now an annual feature to brainstorm with the systems and society across globe in bringing about the next level outcomes of peace building initiatives. Maadhyam in 2017 caused an important debate and discussion in its inaugural conference on “Conflicts and The Law: Perspective and the Challenges”. Weaving the thread forward, we chose the theme of “Building Bridges through Innovative Justice” for 2018 ADR Summit, a concept implied in the subject with special focus of its relevance towards mediation.
The pre-conference Maadhyam mediation-training programme inaugurated by the Former Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Mr Justice J.S. Khehar took off with the International mediation faculty comprising of Gregg F. Relyea (USA); Prof. Dr Sukhsimranjit (Pepperdine School of Law, USA); Sujata Gupta (UK); Aloysius Goh (Singapore); Raffael Probst (Germany) all led under one umbrella in sessions moderated by father of mediation movement in India- Niranjan J. Bhatt.
Mediation, arbitration are mainstay of dispute resolution not as a compulsion to court dockets but as a preferred choice, with this vision laid down for Maadhyam and the Summit, the stage for the inaugural was set by President of Maadhyam, A.S. Chandhiok.
The thematic address was given by Gregg F Relyea and the vote of thank was proposed by the Summit Chairperson, Sadhana Ramachandran. The release of brochure and the National Anthem culminated the summit inaugural. The music and the dinner interweaved the vibrant audience who joined together for exchange of ideas and networking on the day.
Our sponsors and vibrant audience from across the India have played a great role in making the summit a grand success. The three-day summit concluded with a Valedictory session by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal, Acting Chief Justice High Court of Delhi under whose hand the certificates of the trained trainees were handed over. The journey has commenced and we are moving ahead to next milestone now, as the President of Maadhyam already announced for Mediation Bill, as proposed by Maadhyam would soon shared with the government besides dedicated programmes on arbitration and mediation.
