About Maadhyam

The Maadhyam, International Council for Conflict Resolution (Maadhyam), is an Indian institution dedicated to advancing mediation and alternative dispute resolution through practice, research, training and capacity building. Comprising accredited mediators, members of the Bar, arbitrators, academics and domain experts from diverse sectors, Maadhyam brings together experienced practitioners and young professionals committed to strengthening consensual dispute resolution in India.

Maadhyam has been developing and implementing training programs for imparting and promoting conflict resolution skills for ADR practitioners in close collaboration with local and global partners. It is a pioneer in the mediation movement in India and has championed the cause of ADR as a pathway to resolve disputes and restore relationships.

At Maadhyam, the key stakeholders in ADR processes, from across the globe, come together to promote and unlock the potential of ADR and foster a culture of resolving disputes with efficacy and fairness. Pro actively engaged in policy making in the field of ADR,  Maadhyam was privileged to be invited to witness the historic day- August 7, 2019, when India along with 45 other countries signed the Singapore Convention.

With its mission of continued learning and capacity building, Maadhyam undertakes awareness and training programmes, both international and domestic, to equip the ADR professionals with not just the necessary skills and knowledge but also the best global practices. Its Youth Forum, engages with the young talent in schools and colleges to empower them to be the leaders of tomorrow in reducing conflict and building peace and through Kewal Memorial Foundation, Maadhyam implements its community welfare activities.

International Council for Conflict Resolution (ICCR) is an interdisciplinary institution at the forefront of the mediation movement in India. Through its initiatives, Maadhyam is leading a shift in how society perceives disputes encouraging people to see conflict as an opportunity to strengthen relationships rather than damage them. Its efforts include:

  • Teaching mediation as a credit course in law schools.
  • Building the capacity of legal and non-legal professionals.

Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok

Amarjit Singh Chandhiok is a distinguished Senior Advocate and former Additional Solicitor General of India. He is the first Indian lawyer to hold the position of Principal Counsel to the European Union Commission. He was a Member, Advisory Committee, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.

A SIMI Certified Mediator, he is also part of the Faculty of SAGE Mediation Institute of Leadership Education, Singapore He is an accredited Mediator by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA, he is also an International Honorary Senior Fellow of the Straus Institute. Mr. Chandhiok is a member of the Russian Centre for Dispute Resolution of the BRICS Forum, London Court of International Arbitration, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Indian Council of Arbitration. He has been mediator, arbitrator and arbitration counsel in many international and domestic arbitrations.

Six times President of the Delhi High Court Bar, his many significant initiatives include the setting up of the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, the only one in India being run by lawyers. His expertise in commercial, insolvency, and corporate law is much sought for. Many prestigious awards have been conferred upon him and he holds two doctorates (honoris causa). He is currently the President Elect of the Bar Association of India.

Mr. Jitender Pal Singh

J.P. Sengh is a Senior Advocate and has pioneered the mediation movement in India. He was appointed Founder Organising Secretary of the Delhi High Court Mediation & Conciliation Centre, New Delhi, India and is presently a Member of its Overseeing Committee.

He attended the Mediation Training Program for Training of Trainers at S.J. Quinney College of Law, Utah, USA in 2010 and also completed the Commercial Training Programme conducted 36 by Bangalore Mediation Centre in association with Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services Inc. USA (JAMS) and the Foundation for Sustainable Rule of Law Initiatives in 2013.

He is a SIMI Certified Mediator and also accredited by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA, he is part of the Faculty of SAGE Mediation Institute of Leadership Education, Singapore. A master Mediation Trainer, he has been appointed as an Observer for Mediation Trainers at Faridabad and Jharkhand by the Mediation Conciliation Project Committee, Supreme Court of India, and has conducted Pilot Projects and workshops in Peer Mediation in schools.

He was recognized as an Eminent Member of the Bar and Legal Academia by the Bar Association of India. He was a member of the panel constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for recommending legislation on mediation. He was appointed as a member of the working Group/ Committee Constituted for Drafting of Rules, regulations, and Standards of Mediation in India under the Mediation Bill, 2023 by the Govt. of India.

Ms. Neelam Rathore

Neelam Rathore is a practicing lawyer in Delhi since 1986. She has successfully managed a broad spectrum of disputes spanning civil and corporate law, property and taxation, arbitration and aviation, representing clients before numerous courts and forums throughout India.

She represented the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, when the National Green Tribunal (NGT) was established in India in 2011 and was privileged to handle several noteworthy environmental cases, having significant impact on the environment. She spearheaded the revival of the Purana Quila Lake in Delhi through the intervention by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and also highlighted the extensive degradation of the Yamuna River in Saharanpur, India, caused by illegal sand mining as well as the irreparable damage to the fragile ecology and glaciers at Rohtang Pass, Himalayas, resulting from the heavy influx of tourists and tourism-related activities.

A SIMI Certified Mediator, also accredited by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA, she is part of the Faculty of SAGE Mediation Institute of Leadership Education, Singapore. Currently, she is the Joint Secretary at the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, New Delhi, India. Beyond her legal work, she is an active Rotarian, committed to serve and build empowered and peaceful communities.

Ms. Sarika Gandhi

Sarika Gandhi is a trained mediator since 2006 by Samadhan the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre. She is a SIMI Certified
Mediator and is also accredited by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA, where she acquired global best practices in mediation and negotiation. She has mediated numerous family, matrimonial, corporate, and commercial disputes, successfully guiding parties toward amicable and timely resolutions.

Her professional expertise spans Aviation Law, Corporate Law, Consumer Protection, Data Protection, Money laundering, Antitrust, and Corporate Compliance, including Integrity Compliance. She has advised corporates on complex compliance and regulatory issues, while building extensive experience in negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.

Ms. Gandhi, plays a key role in conceptualizing and organizing national and international conferences and training programmes at Maadhyam to advance ADR in India and globally. Beyond her professional practice, she is an active Rotarian and Past President of the Rotary Club of Delhi Safdarjung, contributing significantly to social initiatives and community service.

Mr. Atul Batra

Atul Batra is a practicing lawyer since 1990 with extensive experience before courts across India. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of
Uniserve Law Offices, a boutique law firm headquartered in Delhi, supported by a strong network of associates across India.

Ms. Puja Anand

Puja Anand, an Advocate with nearly three decades of practice before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, and Tribunals. She has built a distinguished career in litigation, mediation, and arbitration. Her expertise spans Matrimonial Law, Criminal Law, Arbitration, and Human Rights, with the past 16 years devoted to Mediation, Dispute Resolution, and Legal Aid for marginalized communities, particularly women and disadvantaged groups. She has many landmark judgments to her credit, reflecting her enduring commitment to justice, equality, peace, and reconciliation in India and other developing contexts.

Ma. Sakshi Vijay

Sakshi is currently working in Jindal Global University in the Law School as an Assistant Professor. She is an acclaimed Author, who has written the first of its kind, the only children‘s book on the ‗Constitution of India‘. She is a Humboldt (German Chancellor) Fellow and has worked previously in the field of Public Policy as a Consultant with the Law Commission of India. She has worked as an in-house counsel in the first two years of her professional life in an Oil and Gas exploration company.

Trained as a Mediator in Australia and then as a Tribunal Secretary in Hong Kong, she worked at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre as a case-managing intern for Arbitration and Mediation and participated in the business development activities of the Institutions in India. Accredited as a mediator by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, India, she aspires to bring about awareness of the process through community mediation and training in negotiation of people at large.

Ms. Neha Jain

Neha is a seasoned legal professional and accredited international mediator with extensive expertise in mediation, reconciliation, arbitration, and litigation, with more than 16 years of experience in resolving disputes for individuals, corporations, and institutions. She is a certified mediator with the Delhi High Court and an Accredited International Mediator and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), London.

Neha has successfully facilitated settlements in diverse disputes, including high-value commercial contracts, infrastructure and construction projects and sensitive matrimonial and family matters. Known for her ability to foster dialogue, build trust, and create cooperative solutions, she emphasizes reconciliation not only as a tool to resolve disputes but also to preserve long-term relationships and collaborations.

Her arbitration work encompass case strategy, drafting, and guiding clients through the procedural and substantive intricacies of arbitral proceedings. By blending arbitration, mediation, and conciliation strategies, she strives to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective,
and sustainable solutions that help clients avoid prolonged litigation.

Ms. Jasbir Kaur

Jasbir Kaur has over three decades of experience in legal practice before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India as well as the Delhi High Court. She began her journey in Mediation in 2006 with the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, New Delhi, India. A SIMI-certified Mediator, she also holds the certification(s) of training as a mediator from the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, USA) and Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA. She has also attended the Global Pound Series of Mediation Conference at Singapore.

With her expertise in criminal law, she has been successfully conducting mediation(s) in criminal matters. She has defended the government in high-stakes matters being empaneled with the Union of India since 2005. Committed and dedicated, she is working relentlessly to advance the cause of mediation to bring quietus to litigation wherever she can. She feels a lot of matters are filed in court on account of exacerbated disputes based on personal egos, misinformation, wrong perceptions coupled with limited avenues of communication inter se litigants. She staunchly believes and professes that peace is priceless and mediation is the path to curb litigation.

Mr. Rajiv Dutta

Rajiv Dutta is a distinguished Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India with almost 50 years of legal experience. He is a renowned arbitrator and mediator, serving on panels at prestigious institutions like the India International Arbitration Centre, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC).

Rajiv is actively involved in mediation at the Supreme Court Mediation Centre and holds key roles, including Country Representative for India at the International Bar Association’s Mediation Committee. He has also served as Vice-President of the Bar Association of India and is recognized for his expertise in sports law and international arbitration. Mr. Dutta is also the co-founder of NIVAARAN

Ms. Prerna Kohli

Prerna Kohli, Founding Senior Partner at ZEUS Law, has over three decades of professional experience in litigation and mediation. Empaneled as a Senior Mediator with the Delhi High Court Mediation Center, she specializes in matrimonial mediation, having successfully mediated more than 100 matters, encouraging and empowering parties to resolve conflicts amicably and efficiently. She is also an empaneled mediator with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Prerna is an internationally trained mediator with accreditation from SIMI and IMI. She trained at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA and completed the Aranda Series Program, Sage Mediation, Singapore. Her expertise extends to regulatory law, right to information, and environmental law. She contributed to the World Bank’s Regulatory Compendium for South Asia, prepared the draft Bill for the Delhi Road Transport Regulatory Commission, and co-authored papers on reforms in public transport provisioning, right to information (UNDP), regulatory relationships, regulatory interface with the judiciary (SAFIR), and community mediation.

She is committed to strengthening the culture of mediation in India and promoting peaceful, collaborative resolution of disputes.

Ms. Maldeep Sidhu

Maldeep Sidhu is a seasoned Advocate with over 39 years of experience practicing before the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court of India, as well as other Courts, including Punjab & Haryana and Bombay High Courts. She began her engagement with mediation in the early 1990s, dedicating time to resolving disputes between residents and local government authorities in Delhi’s underprivileged communities. In 2006, following training under the Indian Master Trainers, she was invited by the Delhi High Court to join the Overseeing Committee of the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre (Samadhan).

She attended the Training of Trainers program at S.J. Quinney College of Law, Utah, USA, and completed the Advanced Mediation Master Class at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA. As a Certified Mediator, she has conducted mediations at both the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court, specializing in facilitating constructive dialogue and achieving amicable resolutions in complex disputes.

Maldeep combines her deep legal knowledge with strong communication and problem-solving skills, guiding parties toward fair, efficient, and mutually agreeable outcomes. Ms. Narmadha Sampath

A seasoned legal professional with 25 years of practice, having represented government departments, corporations, universities, and municipalities in several cases before the Madras High Court and other forums. Appeared in landmark constitutional, taxation, and service law matters reported in leading journals, and built extensive expertise in civil, criminal, labour, industrial, municipal, election, and corporate restructuring disputes. Widely recognized in India and abroad for contributions to alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation, as a pathway to harmony and justice.

Dr. Vinod Surana

Vinod Surana, Managing Partner of Surana & Surana International Attorneys – a law firm ranked among India’s top firms since 1998-99. He is well known in national and international legal and business circles for his leadership, scholarship and problem-solving skills and is listed in the top 100 legal luminaries of India by LexisNexis and among the top M&A lawyers by Chambers & Partners, London.

He has studied diplomacy and international relations from the London School of Economics; Conflict management and resolution from the Harvard Law School; M&A from IIM(A); Brand Management from IIM(B); Business Administration from University of California, International Arbitration from Cornell Law School; Mediation from Straus Institute, USA and Singapore International Mediation Institute. Ms. Rajdipa Behura

Rajdipa Behura is a designated Senior Advocate from the High Court of Delhi. She has nearly 25 years of experience in active litigation, with expertise in diverse civil and criminal laws; she has represented private and government entities before the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi and other High Courts, Trial Courts, National Green Tribunal, National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC), Appellate Tribunal for Foreign Exchange Management Act, Appellate Tribunal for Prevention of Money Laundering Act, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, Competition Commission of India, NHRC and Revisionary Authority, Ministry of Mines, Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR).

She has also represented the Government of NCT of Delhi as Additional Standing Counsel, has worked as Special Public Prosecutor for CBI, represented Union of India as a Senior Panel Lawyer and also acted as Panel, Senior Panel Lawyer as well as Special Counsel for
various State Governments and other government entities. She has also served as a member of the State Supervisory Board under PC & PNDT Act, 1994, Directorate of Family Welfare, State of Odisha.

Apart from the above, Rajdipa Behura is also an Arbitrator and an internationally trained mediator. She is also part of the panel of arbitrators at Delhi International Arbitration Centre. She has presided over various cases as an Arbitrator and has conducted various in-house mediations.

Mr. P.S.Khurana

P.S. Khurana holds a B.Sc., LL.B., and LL.M. from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He became an Advocate in 1990 and has practised in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Supreme Court of India, and other High Courts. He has taught at Punjab University and founded LEGALEYE: The Law Firm.

Mr. Khurana has been awarded Best Attorney in 2022 (Dubai & Singapore), and serves as an Evaluator and Judge for the International Moot Competition at The Hague. He was Vice President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (2008-09) and has authored 17 law books, including THE MEDIATOR’S JOURNEY: Building Competence and Managing Disputes and MEDIATION: An Innovative Tool of Dispute Resolution. He is a trained mediator, having completed advanced training at Pepperdine University and ICADR.

Ms. Mamta Saha

Mamta Saha is a practicing lawyer in the High Court of Delhi and the Supreme Court of India. At present, she is a Panel Council in DLSA (Delhi Legal Services Authority) Mediator with MCPC, Supreme Court of India, Senior Mediator in Delhi High Court legal services Authority and also empanelled with DDRS (Delhi Dispute Resolution Society) a state Government body as senior mediator and trainer. She is reaching out to, supporting and promoting various NGOs to spread  awareness in the field of ADR and mediation including the Neev Foundation, Sarv Chetnag and Goonj.

Mamta Saha is SIMI (Singapore International Mediation Institute) and STRAUS accredited International mediator. Besides being a practitioner of law, dispute avoidance, conflict management and resolution comes naturally to her. Resolving disputes through mediation is something she wants to keep practicing and advocating for.

Mamta Saha, in the past, has served as a “Member” of the “Tribunal for Welfare and Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizen” in Delhi government. She has also lived her passion of nurturing young minds in the University of Delhi and other private colleges, Schools and Institutions as Guest Faculty for Law, Management and Science of
Human Behaviour courses.

Ms. Rinku Narula

As an advocate and internationally accredited mediator, Rinku Narula has pursued a career in law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) that reflects a rare combination of depth and versatility. Her specialization lies in both arbitration and mediation of contractual conflicts, where she blends analytical precision with a calm and facilitative style of engagement. Rinku is a Level 1 Mediator with SIMI and accredited by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA. Beyond her professional work, Rinku is committed to mentorship and community service and has judged national mediation competitions and mentored young professionals. Ms. Monika Jalota

Monika Jalota has been practicing at the Punjab and Haryana High Court since 1995, in a wide range of laws including Constitutional, Land Acquisition, Arbitration, and Consumer cases before Supreme Court of India, High Courts, and other foras. She has served as Senior Deputy Advocate General of Punjab. Empanelled Arbitrator with the Chandigarh Arbitration Center.

Monika has been a Trained Mediator since 2008, at the Mediation and Conciliation Center of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, where she discovered a passion for the facilitative and transformative nature of mediation. She has delivered 40-hour Basic Mediation Training across India to advocates, judicial officers, experts, and students as a Trainer as part of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee, Supreme Court of India. To further hone her skills, she has undertaken Intensive, Advanced, Refresher & specialised Mediation Training at the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation, New York.

Monika has judged numerous mediation and negotiation competitions. Balancing her roles as a lawyer, arbitrator, and mediator, Monika Jalota is dedicated to servin.

Ms. Puja Jain

Puja Jain is a legal professional and an accredited mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI), committed to facilitating effective and amicable dispute resolution. She firmly believes that mediation is a powerful alternative to traditional litigation, offering a flexible and collaborative space for parties to find common ground.

Her approach is rooted in mediation advocacy—not only guiding conversations but also empowering individuals to take control of their own outcomes. Ms. Sanaya Nariman

Dr. Sanaya Nariman is an educationist, author, and mediator with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. She has authored widely used science textbooks for schools, including Science Spark, Galaxy, Science Blossom, and the Science Venture Series, published by Indiannica Publishers.

As an educational consultant and teacher trainer, Dr. Nariman specializes in Science, Mathematics, and English pedagogy. She has designed and conducted workshops for teachers and students in leading institutions at New Delhi such as Tagore International School, Carmel School, Hamdard School, and Modern School as well as for Indiannica and Britannica. She chaired the Program for Environmental Development in Schools (PEAS) for nearly three decades, expanding its work across five cities, and continues to serve on the boards of several educational and social development trusts, including the Rajiv Neelu
Kachwaha Trust and the Hunger Project.

Dr. Nariman has also been a governing board member of Miranda House, University of Delhi (2018–2021), and is the Founder and current Chairperson of the Maadhyam Youth Forum, where she pioneered the Peer Mediation Program for college students. She has conducted numerous national workshops and conferences on leadership, conflict resolution, and integrated learning, including the ―Be Real: The Art and Science of Human Connection‖ series in collaboration with Miranda House, University of Delhi.

Ms. Amita Sehgal

Amita Sehgal is a Lawyer, Mediator, and Mediation Trainer. Practising as a lawyer since 2001, she is a trained and certified mediator with over 20 years of experience at facilitating settlements at the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre.

She received her Basic Mediation Training in India and Advanced training (TOT) at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, University of Utah, and at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, USA.

She has conducted mediation training for Hon’ble judges, lawyers, and law students at various High Courts and Law Universities across India. As Co-Chairperson of Maadhyam Youth Forum, the youth wing of Maadhyam, she has led Peer Mediation Programs in schools and colleges, including events in collaboration with the Global Challenges Forum and UNITAR, with the aim of equipping students with life skills for conflict resolution.

She brings this deep understanding to the field of mediation, combining legal training with the investigative rigor and empathetic storytelling of a journalist.
